Here is a little about kathak (Description) Kathak is a form of Indian classical dance rooted in ancient tradition. Originating in the courts of India, its lyrical and poetic movement is often used for storytelling. Kathak comes from the word 'Kathakaar' (Storyteller)who used subtle gestures and movements to enhance the dramatic element of the narrative. This dance as it exists today is characterised by its intricate rhythm patterns, beautiful expressional songs and spins coupled with fast and varied footwork. The open house/Workshop provides an opportunity to explore and dive into this beautiful Indian Classical Dance Form, to learn, explore and experience 'Kathak', in its pure form. Through the workshops we intend to plant a seed of Indian Dance in dance enthusiasts, also creating exposure among them to expand their horizons. These sessions are for beginners which is an amalgamation of Basic Yoga and Dance and focused on Practical & Theoretical aspects of Kathak Dance. COURSE CONTENT OF THE WORKSHOP: Practical Sessions: · Footwork · Hand movements · Spins · Pure bandishes of Kathak such as tihai, chakkardar, tode etc. · Taal teen taal and different laya (rhythms) · Hast Mudras · Composition / Repertoire
